TRAVEL GUIDE: ICELAND// ICE CAVE TOUR

Our second day in Iceland we took a private jeep tour to an underground ice cave and you guys it was SO FUN. It was the highlight of my Iceland trip and the whole day was one big adventure! Our tour guide was so knowledgeable and took us to a few other stops along the way like waterfalls and hot springs! The tour started when we were picked up at our hotel in the morning (8:30am) by this superjeep.is , this is such a nice feature considering we didn't rent a car. They made it super easy & convenient for us.

Our first stop was beautiful waterfalls followed by a hot spring stop and lunch. Then we were headed onto the glacier to our destination. The day was cloudy and snowing so all we could see while we were on the glacier was alot of white , it was still absolutely beautiful but I bet it would have been a sight to see if it is a totally clear day!

Once you arrive at the ice caves you head underground for a tour through various tunnels and rooms. The first thing you do is strap special chains onto your boots so you can walk on the ice. Then you head into the 30 degree ice tunnels for a tour! Our tour guide taught us so much while we were down there and even sang us traditional Icelandic songs in a room that echoed! The ice caves are man made and they are lit with various lighting so that you can see all the beautiful crevasses and layers of volcanic ash.

We had the ride of our lives and I would highly recommend this tour! Here is the specific tour that we took, it lasts 8-9 hours and it is really nice having the flexibility to stop when you want to take pictures ! We stopped on the side of the road to see Icelandic horses and it was great to have that opportunity that we would not have had otherwise.

Important facts:
- Our tour guide/jeep driver took pictures the whole day and the company
later uploads them to facebook for you to view
- Wear layers upon layers for the ice caves it is COLD
- Most importantly you need warm wool socks and warm boots.
I had Ugg boots and two pairs of socks and my toes were frozen

sure to bring snack and water for the day.
